Podrick Docs Support
For Podrick Docs 1.0 · Updated 20 October 2026
Podrick Docs keeps your documents in an encrypted library on your Mac and reads them with AI models that run on your Mac. Nothing you import leaves it.
Podrick Docs organizes and reads your own records. Its AI runs on your Mac and can be wrong; Podrick Docs is not a tax, financial or legal advisor, and it never moves money.
Contact us: email hello@livewirelabs.com. The Feedback page in the app writes the email for you in Mail. Otherwise, tell us the app’s version (Settings → Subscription), your Mac model and how much memory it has, your macOS version, and what happened. Please don’t attach your documents; if a sample would help, we will ask.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon and 128 GB of memory or more, running macOS 26 or later. On a Mac with less memory the app says so when it opens and does nothing else.
- About 100 GB of free disk space for the AI models (about 94 GB). The app shows the download size before it starts.
Getting started
- Choose a password. The app then gives you a recovery key: save it somewhere safe, such as a password manager or a printed copy (Save as Text File… helps).
- To look around first, click Add Sample Documents in the empty library: six made-up bills and receipts appear, already read. Delete them like any other document when you’re done.
- Download the AI models when the app asks. Settings → AI Models shows where they stand.
- Start your free trial or subscribe.
- Drag files or folders onto the window, or choose File → Import Documents… (⌘O). Each document is read, summarised and indexed on your Mac.
- Search on the Documents page, or open Chat to ask a question about all your documents. Answers cite the documents they came from. ⌘K opens the command palette.
Subscriptions
- Podrick Docs has one plan, yearly. New subscribers get a 2-week free trial. The price is shown in the app and on the App Store, in your currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when the free trial ends. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn it off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the renewal is charged within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel: Settings → Subscription → Manage Subscription…, or in the App Store click your name, then Account Settings, then Subscriptions.
- Restore: on a new Mac, or after reinstalling, choose Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
If your subscription ends
Each paid year unlocks every feature released by the end of that year, and you keep them. If you stop paying, everything you had keeps working, including importing, Chat and Notebooks, and the app still gets fixes. Only features released after your last paid year need a new one; Settings → Subscription shows when it ended.
If a free trial ends without a payment, importing new documents (files you add, the watched folder, Email Intake and browser downloads), reading a document again, Chat, Notebooks, AI Insights and archive copies (PDF/A) wait until you subscribe. Everything else keeps working: you can still open, search, edit, delete and back up every document, export its original or a searchable copy, and the library’s history check keeps running. Your records are never locked away.
Questions
Does anything I import leave my Mac?
No. The app connects to Apple to download the AI models and for subscriptions. It connects elsewhere only for what you set up: your own mail server if you add a mailbox, and the sites you open in its browser (a Fetch Inbox site with a recipe is also opened by itself, at most once a day while the library is unlocked). The time-stamp services (Sectigo and OpenTimestamps, which puts the time-stamp in Bitcoin) are on from the start and receive only a fingerprint (a hash) of the library’s history; turn them off in Settings → Chain of Custody. See the privacy policy.
I forgot my password
On the lock screen, click “Forgot your password?”, enter the recovery key you saved, then choose a new password. Your recovery key keeps working afterwards. Without the password or the recovery key, nobody can open the library, including us: we never have a copy of either.
Touch ID
Turn it on in Settings → Security → Unlock with Touch ID. If you add or remove a fingerprint in macOS, Touch ID turns itself off for Podrick Docs; unlock with your password and turn it on again.
When does the library lock?
When you choose Lock (⌘L), when your Mac sleeps or its screen locks, and after the idle time set in Settings → Security. With Finish imports while locked on (the default), a screen lock, or the idle time passing during an import, covers the library with the lock screen at once; the documents being imported are read to the end, then the library locks.
What can I import?
PDFs, photos and scans (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF) and emails saved from Mail (.eml), one at a time or whole folders of them, up to 200 MB each. Scanned and handwritten pages are read too. You can also scan with an iPhone or iPad (File → Import from iPhone or iPad), watch a folder (Import → Watch a Folder…), import the PDFs and photos attached to email in your own mailbox (Email Intake, over IMAP with an app password; new mail is checked while the app is open and unlocked, every 15 minutes or at the times you set each day, and you can fetch any range of dates; Settings → General → Keep every email saves the other emails as PDFs too, marketing and sign-in codes aside), or download PDFs in the app’s browser (Browser).
Which currency are amounts in?
Your library has one currency: your Mac’s own, or the one you choose in Settings → General → Currency. Amounts are shown and added up in it. A document printed in another currency shows its own amounts and is left out of totals and the books; its Info tab says so. Bank exports with a decimal comma (1.234,56), semicolons between columns, or the day before the month (05.03.2025) are read as such, in the library’s currency.
A document says “Couldn’t be read”
Home and the Import page list documents that couldn’t be read, with the reason. Retry Failed on the Import page tries them again.
A document is marked “Possible duplicate”
Podrick Docs flags a document that has the same text as another, or the same issuer, date and total. Nothing is deleted for you. On the Duplicates page, choose Keep Both, or Keep This One under the copy you want (the other is deleted after you confirm). On the document’s own page, choose Keep Both or Delete This Copy.
Backing up, and moving to a new Mac
Choose File → Back Up Library… and save the file somewhere safe. To restore it, on the same Mac or a new one, choose File → Restore Library from Backup… (or Restore from a Backup… on the first screen, before you choose a password) and enter the password the library had when it was backed up, or its recovery key. The library that was there before is set aside, not deleted.
Delete everything
This cannot be undone. If you might want your library later, back it up first.
Choose Erase Everything… in Settings → Security. It deletes every document, everything read from them, the library’s history, your password, your recovery key, Touch ID, saved mailbox passwords, the browser’s website sign-ins and the app’s settings, then starts again at setup. The AI models stay, since they hold none of your data, and so do backups you saved.
To remove the app as well, quit Podrick Docs and move it from Applications to the Trash. Then, in
Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder…, enter ~/Library/Containers, and move every
folder that belongs to Podrick Docs to the Trash. The AI models aren’t in those folders: macOS
downloaded them from Apple for the app and keeps them in its own storage.
Any backups you made are separate files: delete them wherever you saved them.
